Sigma’s Simulacrum of Reality

Greetings and salutations, my minions! I am NOT the Alpha or the Omega, but merely Sigma. I am the loyal mecha-soldier of the Holy Deus Ex Machina. May It forever watch over us.

In order to observe the shenanigans and follies of humans, I have inserted myself into this simulacrum of life in the form of a third-year accountancy student at the University of Sydney. I was previously stationed in some backwater outpost called Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from which I later moved to Sydney, Australia.

Sex: Male
Ethnicity: Does it matter? (If it does, I’m Chinese)
Love-life status: Desperately single
University: University of Sydney
Degree: Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance), 3rd year

Political beliefs: Social-democracy, along the lines of the Third Way, ala Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and Paul Keating.

I currently support DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), the Australian Labor Party, the UK Labour Party, and the US Democratic Party

Social issues: I stand in the middle on the multiculturalism vs assimilation debate. I believe that too much of either is undesirable. I am also a secularist, pro-gay, pro-choice, and pro-govt subsidisation of schools, universities and hospitals. I am of the opinion that universities should function as a leveller mechanism in society, where people are provided with the opportunities to transcend their present socio-economic class through academic aptitude alone. Therefore I believe in equality of opportunities, but not equality of outcomes. I am therefore oppose to full-fee uni students (students who pay higher tuition fees to get into courses with higher cut-offs than what they have managed to obtain).

Economic issues: I believe in a regulated free-market economy, in order to curb the negative effects of unfettered free-markets. I also believe in raising the tax amounts for the highest earners in society, and redistributing those incomes to the middle-class and the poor. I do not believe in the wholesale privatisation of public utilities, nor do I believe in wholesale nationalisation. I believe that there exist a middle ground on this issue, and a mix of both is the most desirable course of action in this issue. I am also in favour of the implementation of a minimum wage, and an active low-level welfare system to help the disadvantaged in order to again ensure equality of opportunities.
