Confession: Addicted to 90’s Pop Songs
Damn, I’m one weird puppy. Heck, I won’t hide it and pretend that I’m some angsty cool alternative-loving, rock-raving chick magnet then.
Yeap, you heard me right. I am NOT into Coldplay, or Powderfingers, or the Foo Fighters, or any other obscure alternative or punk-rock band which only about 100 people know of their existence in the whole world.
I am into POP. Yeap, you’re free to throw your potted plants at me now for being an uncool, sell-out, conformist with bad hair (ouch, that last bit was harsh). But I feel oddly brave right now, so I’m gonna say it out loud: I LOVE 90’s POP MUSIC!!!
I have a weakness for cute chick groups singing puppy love songs, such as B*Witched’s (now defunct) ‘Rollercoaster’, ‘Cest LaVie’ (I’m totally in love with chicks with adorable British accents now…), Solid Harmonie’s (who?) ‘I Want You To Want Me’, ‘I’ll Be There For You’, Step’s ‘It’s The Way You Make Me Feel’ or many of the other harmonious one hit wonder girl groups out there then. Songs about love just have a habit of making you go ‘Awww’ and love everyone, huh?
I am also not ashamed to admit that one of my favourite guy bands was the Aussie duo Savage Garden (now defunct). Loved (and still do) their hits ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’, ‘To The Moon and Back’, ‘I Want You’ and ‘Animal Song’. Also loving Darren Hayes’s new single ‘So Beautiful’. Although he does sound more like a woman than a guy most of the time, he can sure hit the high notes man
However, to salvage my now tattered music rep, in my defence, I will say that I also dig Vertical Horizon’s ‘Everything You Want’, Goo Goo Doll’s ‘Iris’, Texas (just the BEST pop group to come out from Scotland!)’s ‘Inner Smile’, ‘Say What You Want’ and ‘In Demand’, as well as anything Linkin Park and The Dissociatives. And oh yeah, I also am a sucker for divas: Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.
I am at peace now.
So sue me
