Heated Debates On Voting, Tertiary Education, on The CICAK…
I came across this article on voting in Malaysia on The CICAK, and I decided to comment on it. I took the view that voting has the potential to change the situation of one’s country, including Malaysia, and that protesting in the form of ‘abstaining from voting’ is a futile and useless gesture.
However, it is to be expected that not everybody will agree with my views on this. However, some, probably due to their lack of civility, intelligence, or both, instead of stating their counter-arguments in a civilised manner, have resorted to inexplicably attacking me personally. One such person in that debate is an infantile dude called Nic Lu, who seems to think that if he calls me a ’simpleton’ often enough (or maybe that’s due to his limited vocabulary?), people would actually start to believe him. I think that maybe he should get out of his room a bit more often and get some fresh air, or meet some chicks or something, instead of sitting in front of his PC and constantly refreshing The CICAK to see whether anybody has bothered to read his tripe yet. How sad…
Anyway, check out that article and my opinion on it, and tell me what your views are
And by the way, I have also adapted another another of my post into another article for The CICAK , curtesy of the editor’s request. It’s on The Non-Bumi’s 4-Tiered Tertiary Experience.
Cheers then!

Dude this Nic Lu guy has issues. Good on you for voicing your opinion, please continue to do so, just don’t bother replying to him. When there is no one speaking to him, hopefully, he will hear the foolishness of his own words.

I do have my own thoughts on that matter, but not in the mood to discuss them now. But that Nic Lu guy does seems to think himself on a higher plateau.
Firstly, so what if your proficiency in English is lacking (which you clearly are not)? It’s a forum for discussion of ideas, not the advancement of the Queen’s English. That’s why I get very irate too when debaters are penalised for their lack of English proficiecny when their ideas should count more. And if this Nic Lu guy is really so proficient, he would’ve recognised your remark that sigma is cool because it’s between alpha and omega as sarcasm, and not defensive statement from you.
Secondly, he directed his entire post just to attack you, and only gave his views on compulsory voting after you replied to him.
Keep sharing your opinions yeah! (not that I agree with you entirely most of the time, ;P)

Unfortunately, Nic Lu prefers to provide ad hominem arguments rather than deal with your contentions in your article. That’s unfortunate, and not helping anybody.

That Nic Lu guy is an idiot.
I would’ve whaaaack him up, slap him left right and centre.

khailee: Hey man, thanks for dropping by!
junhoe: Yo dude! About the English thing, I guess some people just have this peculiar notion that ‘terrific English’ = higher social status/intelligence. Guess it must have stemmed from M’sia’s continued deterioration of its English proficiency. But taking English pointers from a guy who doesn’t even know the difference between the words ‘tripe’ and ‘trite’ is a bit much now, don’t you think?
Lol! Looks like another case of good ol’ M’sia’s ’style over substance’ mentality, huh?
And hey, feel free to disagree with me as much as you want. I’m interested in hearing your views
xpyre: Agreed
YUanWu: Lol! Nah, I say we should just leave him to rant to himself

So, why don’t you ask Nic Lu out for a drink and talk about it? instead of bitching about it and calling people infantiles? do you even know what infantile means?
you really shouldn’t take what people say so personally, isn’t that the cicak’s purpose?
“2. To create discourse. It does not matter whether our contributors are liberal or conservative, left or right. Our role is not to take sides, but to facilitate a webzine that welcomes all perspectives.”
everyone is allowed his or her OWN opinion right? just like you think you deserve yours, i don’t see why nic doesn’t deserve his. i never heard him saying you were an infantile. Are you afraid that he’s right?
anyway, nice blog! take a chill pill or something okay? don’t take what people say to you so personally, you might get a heart attack or something. cheers!

Deviant: Dude, have you even read Nic Lu’s comments before?
I have ABSOLUTELY no problem whatsoever with people who’s following The Cicak’s:
“2. To create discourse. It does not matter whether our contributors are liberal or conservative, left or right. Our role is not to take sides, but to facilitate a webzine that welcomes all perspectives.”
Let me stress this again, NO PROBLEM whatsover. But see when it says there ‘discourse’, presumably on the article at hand? If you’ve read Nic Lu’s comments properly, from both the voting article by Keith Leong and the uni one by myself, here’s what you should notice:
1. In that voting piece, prior to his unprovoked personal attack on me, he had written absoultely NO views of his own on the issue at hand.
2. Lol, you’re angry because I called him ‘infantile’???
It was he who started attacking me personally out of the blue. He didn’t see any problems labelling me a ’simpleton’, criticising my English, and constantly blowing his own trumpet on his supposed ‘intellect’. Oh but wait, just take a look at the other commentor’s opinion of Nic and I shouldn’t have to say anything more on this actually.
3. In my uni piece, again, where are his opinions on the issue? ABSOLUTELY NONE. Again, he only seem capable to attacking me personally for my apparent ‘defects’, instead of gamely arguing with me on the issue at hand.
Nic Lu has a right to air his own views. It’s just that he has failed to do so in those 2 articles
I think that you should realise that there is a big difference between arguing one’s views, as oppose to just merely attacking someone personally presumably to attract some attention to oneself, like what Nic Lu did.
And who should take a chill pill here, considering you seem to be so enraged with me that you had to post a copy of my reply to you on The Cicak?
Chill out dude
I really have nothing against you man. It’s all just about the issues
