Ijok By-Election: Was Tad Bit Too Harsh In Last Post

May 1, 2007

Ok, I see that I’m getting a lot of flank from some of the readers here (including my dickless wonder pal Del) about my last post.

I admit that I was kinda mad then when I read that morning that BN won yet again on that day, and so I thought I had the right to rant a bit on that. I know that usually we blame BN for all the ills of Malaysia, but I have decided to shift the paradigm a little and instead point the finger at another equally guilty party: the Malaysian voters of all races.

Seeing that I was un-charismatically harsh in that last post, so I apologise for it now, with some reservations. But to those who argue the opposite with me, how do they explain this (some info based on this article):

1. The Chinese like to say that they are helpless when it comes to politics and have to tolerate BN. Then how do you explain Machap? Chinese-majority seat, won by an increased majority by MCA/BN lately despite UMNO’s recent antics. Ijok? Majority of them still backed BN. Better yet, how do you explain why Penang is still Gerakan-lead? Or why MCA MPs still outnumber DAP and PKR MPs by a ratio of 3:1?

2. Why do the Indians continue to give the majority of their support to MIC? What have MIC done for them? 50 years on and they still remain the poorest ethnic group in Malaysia. And is it just me or does Mr Samy Vellu sound like a very arrogant and out-of-touch leader in a lot of his press statements?

3. Where were the moderate Malays in Ijok? They had the chance to let a non-UMNO but also non-PAS party represent them but they rejected it.

Look at the scenario here. BN’s win over PKR in Ijok sends out a lot of bad signs. It says (like it or not) that the people are still more comfortable with a multiracial coalition of monoracial parties instead of multiracial parties. It says that even if BN puts an old shoe as its candidate in elections, it would still win over a quality Opposition candidate.

I rest my case.

  1. My dear Sigma,

    1. The Chinese wants to play safe…one foot here & another foot there = put BN in DUN & Opposition in Parliment.Thats what happened in Macap.

    2. Indians pula has nothing to loose. They pilih those who can offer them anything. Remember the land titles & the street lights given to the Indian communities in Ijok is a durian runtuh to them.Apart from them BN brought in MGR look alikes to entertain them…apa lagi..ini bagus punya gomenlah ada kasi macam2 punya.

    3. The Malays dont want to take risk punya.coz they are afraid to loose their ketuanan Melayu, but they forget their tuan(UMNO)up there sikit punya banyak dok sapu.Apart from that the Malay votes only worth, sekampit beras,2 helai batik, sekilo gula and RM 50 angpow & they will be happy for the next 5 years.Plus Akademi Fantasia,Starz Gang so on…. the Malays seems to be happy punya. So why change gomen?

Dont be sad my friend,”Rome was not built in one day” We kalah today but nobody know whats for us tomorrow. Lawan mesti lawan punya.

    cheers.

  3. Same feeling here. Aih… what a disappointment, eh?
Why can’t us bloody voters teach UMNO a lesson. Let them lose one or two by-election. Tell them that the people are angry at some loud mouth in UMNO/BN. Show them who’s the boss.
Instead BN won by quite a huge margin. Aiyoh!

  4. yuanwu: Yalor, what the heck man… Just a small by-election what, what’s the big deal if they let the Opposition win those? Soon, there’s gonna be the General Election anyway, so if they really don’t like those Opposition MPs, then vote for BN in the GE laa…
